How do you determine the best temperature profile?
We determine the initial temperatures thanks to the few questions you'll answer when you first open the app. After ten days of use, our machine learning algorithm will start to improve the settings based on your own input and your sleep quality data.
I do not want Wi-Fi in my room. Will Moona work without Wi-Fi ?
You have the option to use Bluetooth to synchronize data from Moona to your phone if your bedroom isn't covered with wifi. At night, Moona will turn off any transmission. The product will send the data only when you wake up.
What sensors does Moona use?
Moona contains an accelerometer in the pad to measure your movements during the night, an ambient temperature + humidity sensor and a light intensity sensor on the bedside device to measure your sleeping environment.
How does cooling and heating work?
The pillow pad contains a thin layer of water which is constantly flowing with the bedside device. The beside device contains a heat pump which cools down or warms up the water. Our product supports temperatures between 71°F and 97°F (22°C and 36°C). While this range may not seem wide, the vast majority of our users to do not go below 75°F (24°C) or over 90°F (32°C). Yes, in the app, you can set up the temperature profile that the product will follow through the night. You can also change the temperature directly on the device. Our product supports temperatures between 71°F and 97°F (22°C and 36°C). Is there a risk of leak?
We have selected the materials to be as robust and waterproof as possible. We've run life tests to put every single part of the product in very strenuous circumstances and make sure they hold up. No leak has been reported in our +300 tests.
Is Moona quiet?
Yes. The Moona device runs around 25dB, which is quieter than a whisper. To give you an idea, the quietest air conditioners run between 40 and 60 dB range.
Is the pad machine washable?
The pillow pad is detachable and the textile will be machine washable and anti-allergenic, guaranteeing the best hygienic conditions.
How do you track sleep?
The Moona device uses a tiny accelerometer on the pad to measure the movements of your pillow. Signal processing and our machine learning algorithms will detect your sleep/wake pattern. We will determine your sleep quality by measuring your activity at night. To assess your sleeping environment, we have two additional sensors in the bedside device. One to measure ambient temperature + humidity and another for light intensity.
Has Moona been tested?
Yes ! we have done more than 300 user tests and learned a lot from those. We have an ongoing clinical study with the University Hospital of Nantes, France. It is a controlled, single-blind study, involving 15 subjects over a period of 15 days each.
What is in the box when I buy a Moona?
The product featured in the video is the Moona. It includes the pillow pad, the bedside device and a power cable. Sleep and environment sensors are integrated in the product. The companion app is free (available for iOS and Android).
Is there a pillow included in the product?
No, we want you to be able to keep your favorite pillow. After testing and interviews, we learned that it was best not to make the pillow itself as people have various pillow shape, material and sizes preferences. Our pad goes inside the pillowcase, on top of any standard pillow.
Difference with AC / fan?
By being in direct contact with your head and neck, Moona is better able to regulate your core body temperature. We also continuously adapt the temperature throughout the night, based on your sleep profile and environmental factors.
How often do we need to change the water running within the system?
We recommend changing the water every 2 to 3 months. We recommend using distilled water. You will receive a notification in the app to remind you. The whole system needs about .75L (25fl. oz) of water to function.
Does Moona integrate with other smart products? Smart home devices, Apple’s iHealth, Amazon Alexa, open APIs ...
Not at launch but this is on our roadmap. We expect to have the integrations ready later in 2019.
Why are you not offering a product for the whole mattress?
Because we believe we can be more efficient by targeting only the head/neck area. Most medical studies around the impact of temperature on sleep are focused on one area of the body (we quoted a few studies in our Science page). This is because body temperature regulation is a complex process. How thick is the pillow pad?
Very thin! 19 millimeters (0.8 inch)
Do you detect sleep stages?
At the moment, the accuracy of movement-based sleep trackers in measuring sleep stages is 70 to 80%. However Moona doesn’t need to detect your sleep stages to set the right temperature at the right time, because the circadian rhythm of thermoregulation is distinct from your REM/non-REM sleep stages. We hope to bring integrations with other products to complement our sleep tracking features.
Will the pad fit in my pillow?
The pad is 48cm (19 inches) wide and 34cm (13.4 inches) high. It's designed to fit in most pillows
Is Moona transportable?
Yes! Moona isn't designed to be carried around but it you can easily transport it from one place to another.
